Horace P. Giles was born in Mississippi in 1850. He was listed as a resident of Boston, Massachusetts, from 1872 to 1893 according to the Boston Directory. In addition to Boston, Giles also lived in San Francisco in 1876 and had a studio in Merrimacport, Massachusetts. His work was exhibited at the Boston Art Club between 1892 and 1905. His portrait of Nathaniel Smith Folsom, 1806-1890, hangs in the Dartmouth College Collection.
